Guard dog training centrePatrol dogs

A well trained dog team is a very effective way of guarding. A professional and highly visible dog and handler will act as a strong deterrent to intruders.

Dogs have very highly developed senses and when trained and handled correctly they can efficiently detect intruders which may have been missed by normal security officers.

A trained dog will aid in the defence of the officer should he be under attack. This gives officers more confidence to carry out their duties in vulnerable areas.

Intruders and criminals are more likely to surrender when faced with a dog team. A well disciplined dog can be intimidating on command despite being completely under control by the handler.

Sniffer dogs

Sniffer dogs have helped to safeguard our ports and airports for many years. With recent increases in terrorist activities, the demand for sniffer dogs has increased. Our teams are regularly deployed at airports, sporting events and music festivals in order to assist in searching for unwanted and illegal substances

NPP dogs are trained to detect:

  • Narcotics (drugs such as heroin, coccaine, cannabis etc)
  • Explosives
  • Weapons
  • Smuggled and illegal goods
  • Food products

Proactive search dog training

The main objective of pro-active search dogs is to detect the presence of drugs, explosives or other illegal substance in the area.

Our dogs are trained to search a variety of locations such as buildings, vehicles, aeroplanes, boats and fields/open spaces.

Pro-active drug dogs are trained to detect:

  • Cannabis - resin & herbal
  • Heroin
  • Cocaine
  • Amphetamine
  • Ecstasy (MDMA)
  • Firearms
  • Ammunition
  • Banned food products

Passive search dog training

The role of a passive search dog is to scan search groups of people such as check-in lines at airports or crowds for concerts.

With the dog on a harness and lead, the handler walks the dog through groups of people without making bodily contact. The dog will indicate the presence of any illegal substances on an individual by sitting in front of that person. The handler with then contact the appropriate officials to deal with the person indicated by the dog.

Passive search dogs are trained to detect the same substances as the pro active dogs.
